Ranking Monster Cereals

First off I want to say that I don't think any of the General Mills Monster cereals are bad, I just prefer some over the others. Also, I will not be ranking Fruity Yummy Mummy or Fruit Brute since they were pulled from shelves decades ago. That being said, here is a quick history lesson on the delicious Halloween breakfast cereals! The line of Monster Cereals were first introduced in 1971 and included only Count Chocula and Frankenberry. In 1973 Boo Berry was added to the lineup followed by Frute Brute in 1974 & Fruity Yummy Mummy in 1987. Frute Brute was discontinued in 1982 to make room for Mummy which was discontinued in 1992. Both were revived for a short time in 2013. Honestly, I can't recall seeing either of these now discontinued cereal on store shelves in the 80s or 90s, so I don't feel I can accurately rank them! Well, anyway on to the list of current Monster Cereals!
Boo Berry
I really enjoy the taste of Boo Berry Cereal which is strange because I don't really like blue berries at all! Maybe that's why this sweet cereal is my favorite. Unlike Frankenberry and Count Chocula, the only time of the year that I get that delicious artificial blue berry flavor is in the fall with Boo Berry cereal. I can find strawberry candy, syrup and deserts all year round the same goes for chocolate. I remember growing up as a kid and Boo Berry would only sporadically be on the shelves. This limited release schedule may also be a part of why I prefer Boo Berry over the others?
Count Chocula
There are a million chocolate flavored cereals in stores from Coco-Puffs to Cocoa Pebbles, but none of these cereals quite tastes like Count Chocula. Maybe it's the mix of chocolate cereal mixed with chocolate marshmallows or maybe it's the awesome tasting chocolate milk you get after finishing your bowl. Whatever it is it is exquisite. I remember seeing the Count on shelves all year round as a kid. He was always staring back at me when I was in the cereal aisle along with other great American heroes like Cap'N Crunch and Sugar Bear. This year round treatment ended in 2010 when General Mills decided to make monster cereal a Halloween exclusive food. I feel this was a smart move as you come to appreciate something more, when it is not available all the time!
Frankenberry
It's not a bad thing when your least favorite type of monster cereal is still tasty. Frankenberry is a solid go to cereal this time of year, but I find it's taste a little less sweet than Boo Berry or Count Chocula. Once again, I feel my indulgence in other strawberry flavored snack treats throughout the year may dull my senses to the flavors in Frankenberry. I do enjoy the strawberry milk you get to enjoy at the end of each serving though.
There it is, my rankings of the recent lineup of Monster Cereals. Which one is your favorite? There are no wrong answers because we all are winners as long as there are grocery store shelves filled with boxes featuring food based monsters. Hope you get to enjoy some this year. 1. I got the chance to try all of the cereals in 2013 when they were all released and I definitely think Fruit Brute and Fruity Yummy Mummy are at the top of the pack.

  2. Yeah I'm sad the other two haven't made a permanent return. I'd probably put Mummy at the top of my list followed by Chocula, Frank, Brute, and poor Boo

    1. I never really had a chance to eat those as a kid, so I kept them off of this list. I did have them as an adult and the flavors are kind of similar. Including those 2, my rankings would be as follows: 1. Boo Berry 2. Count Chocula 3. Franken Berry 4. Frute Brute 5. Fruity Yummy Mummy.
