Comic Book Pick 10/3/18

This week the comic book I am most excited to read is...
BATMAN/THE MAXX #1 (OF 5)
Batman must face the strangest and most bizarre adventure of his career, as he meets comics' strangest and most bizarre hero... THE MAXX! IDW and DC Comics proudly present the most surreal, quirky, and wonderful crossover of all time! A devious new doctor at Arkham Asylum is conducting unconventional experiments into the human psyche, and he kicks off a chain reaction of disaster when he experiments on Arkham's newest patient, The Maxx! The city of Gotham is starting to merge with The Maxx's psychedelic mental landscape, known as the Outback, blurring the line between real and unreal. It's up to Batman to save not just Gotham, but all of reality, and he and The Maxx are going to have to travel through some of the darkest places imaginable-the twisted minds of Batman's greatest enemies! Join Batman and The Maxx on an off-kilter and unforgettable romp through the diabolical consciousnesses of Batman's greatest foes. Legendary artist Sam Kieth (Sandman, Wolverine) returns to his greatest creation, The Maxx, and returns to Gotham as well, assisted by multi-Eisner Award-winning writer John Layman (Detective, Chew). First new The Maxx story in more than a decade!

Retro on the Cheap: 90's Comics

Out at a local entertainment store yesterday I saw a few bins of comics labeled "4 for $1!" As a comic collector how could I resist. Of course there were not any of the popular comics we know and love like Spider-Man, Superman or Batman. Instead it was full of 90's small press comics that came out during the height of the indie comics boom. I remember some of these comics being listed as "HOT" in the industry mags back in the day, now they are in the quarter bin. No wonder the boom busted. Here's what I picked up:
In addition to the comics, I also scored these great collectors cards. Remember when every comic had some kind of gimmick to try and get you to buy their book? I kinda miss that...and I kinda don't. So altogether I walked up to the counter thinking I was gonna spend $2. After everything was rung in the grand total was $1.64! That's about $0.20 per comic. I know this is not the first appearance of Deadpool, but for the money I was pleased with my purchase.
