Ecto Cooler Update: 7/12/16

I FINALLY RECEIVED MY ECTO COOLER!!!! I had given up hope of finding some Hi-C Ecto Cooler on the shelves of my local Wal-Mart and grocery stores. Everyday I would check the website ecto.cool to see if websites had any up for sale. Finally about 11 days ago, I checked and HEB, Wal-Mart and Shop Rite had them available! Wal-Mart was by far the cheapest. I made my purchase and it finally arrived and it is amazing!
The first sip I drank made me immediately think of a mylar balloon I had as a kid of Slimer. I got it at a local amusement park and when it finally deflated, I hung it on my wall. I hadn't thought of that balloon in years, but one sip of Ecto Cooler made it all come back to me. The balloon was die-cut around Slimer's body and looked like this:
Anyway, I digress. The taste was exactly like I remembered. Citrus, sweet and neon green. I let each of my kids have a can when they arrived, but am rationing them now to make it last a little longer. It has been so long since I had this stuff and it makes me extremely happy that I can share the joy with my kids today. I just need to find the juice box versions now. It just doesn't feel the same drinking Ecto Cooler from a can, even if the cans are extremely cool and change color when refrigerated.

Ghostbusters: Ecto Minis

I finally broke down and bought some of the Ghostbusters: Ecto Minis from Mattel. I am always hesitant to pick up these type of collectible mini-figs just because of the price. It is $3 for one small figure! But, I am a GB fan and couldn't resist anymore. I was pleasantly surprised at what was inside once I opened the packs. Here's what I got:
In the first Ghostbusters classic pack I got a GHOST WINSTON! I always felt Winston got a bad rap back in the day. Just because he wasn't one of the founding fathers, he always seemed to be left out of all the merchandise of the original Ghostbusters. He was the "Everyman" of the team and deserves more respect.
In the next classic pack, I got a transparent Slimer figure. This was a score! Everyone loves Slimer!
Lastly in the 2016 Ghostbusters pack I got a Rat Ghost. Not too happy with this one. I guess I will have to see what part this little blue guy plays in the movie before I can pass final judgment. Although I do like the pose. He is waving to you, so I guess he is a happy little fella?
All in all I was happy with what I received out of these packs. The quality of the figures is great. I like the sculpts and they have quality paint jobs. The best part is that they all GLOW IN THE DARK! Anything that glows in the dark will immediately receive my seal of approval. I was expecting these figs to be rubbery, kind of like a M.U.S.C.L.E. figure, but they are surprisingly solid and could take some damage. If I see these again in the store, I might just have to pick up a few and see if I can score myself a Terror Dog?

Worst Ghostbusters memory EVER!

With the new Ghostbusters movie about to drop on July 15th, I felt it was the right time to talk about one of the most vivid memories I have attached to the original Busters...
It was the Christmas of 1986 and Ghostbusters was one of the hottest things any kid could own that year! Me and my brother went to bed the night before with visions of proton packs and marshmallows dancing in our heads. When we woke the next morning, the living room was covered with wrapped gifts of joy, but as we started unwrapping I felt something was a little off. My brother unwrapped the original Kenner action figure of  Peter, then  Ray, then Winston, then Egon, then Stay Puft.

He even scored the Filmation Ghostbuster's House and car!

But, where were my Ghostbusters? There must be some mistake? What did I do to deserve this injustice at the age of 6? Was I that bad? I did finally unwrap Slimer, which is a great toy by itself. I can still remember the smell of the rubber pizza as it was taken out of the package. And I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but over the years half the pepperoni pizza paint wore off. I just imagined that Slimer was sharing his pie with Peter, who stubbornly would only eat cheese pizza. Slimer was that special kind of thoughtful ghost.
My parents eventually explained to me that I did have a gift that must not have made it into Santa's bag. They told me I should watch for a brown truck to show up at our house any day now. I watched out that window like a hawk for about two weeks, the damn truck never came! Eventually my parents made good on their promise and I did receive an amazing gift...the legendary LJN Thundercats Lair!!!!
I played the hell out of that toy!!! I guess it was worth the wait, but I will never forget that Christmas of 1986. I still bring it up to this day to my Mom & Dad. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed my first post on 20 Years Before 2000!
