The question of the week for the Pop Culture League is "The local Wax Museum is having a fire sale and you have the opportunity to add a life-size, life-like action figure to your collection. Who do you choose?"
This was a real head scratcher. I wanted to pick someone who reflects my passion for the things I collect, someone I idolized growing up, someone who is the embodiment of what I believe in! My first thought was Superman!
He is an icon of truth, justice and the American way! His stories in the early 90s marked my jump into the comic collecting hobby and he is inspirational and would keep me motivated. Then another thought jumped into my head. BO JACKSON!
I idolized this guy growing up. I collected his cards, apparel and Starting Lineup Action Figures. He was amazing on the baseball diamond and on the football gridiron. He was the embodiment of the American Dream! Growing up in Bessemer, Alabama, Bo grew up to win the 1985 Heisman Trophy and played for both the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Raiders, AT THE SAME TIME!
He became an All-Star in both sports and is regarded as the best athlete of all time. He was the closest thing to Superman we have ever seen in sports. So, if I could add a life-size, life-like action figure to my collection. Who would I choose? Bo Jackson...in a Superman suit!
